Tonight we ate our Thanksgiving Dinner at the Intercontinental, Pudong, in Shanghai. The restaurant was full of people, the lighting dim and warm, and the food was wonderful. The kids were thrilled to have so many choices, and could freely walk up to the buffet, without us worrying about them. They behaved wonderfully, and we were able to enjoy a holiday meal in relative peace and comfort.
It was not as traditional as a turkey meal in the US, the stuffing was dry, but extremely tasty, especially with gravy, the cranberry sauce was a little too thin, but good over the tender, juicy turkey, and the pumpkin pie tasted more like butternut squash. We mixed the traditional meal with things like Shanghai pork, fried rice, pizza and tenderloin. We ate freshly made truffles, tiramisu, and marzipan cream and berry parfaits.
It was quite different than we are used to, but turned out to be a very enjoyable evening, giving us hope, for future holidays in Shanghai.
