Carleigh goes to town.....

A few weeks ago, Carleigh's class went on their first field trip. They have been learning about community, so they headed out to Jinqiao for the day. Jinqiao, is one of the very western areas of Shanghai, and we spend quite a bit of time there.

Early on a Friday morning, every PK3 and PK4 student, along with their parents, hopped onto a large bus, clipboard in hand. On each clipboard was a map, and a set of sticker dots. As we passed each landmark, the children were to put a sticker by it, on their map. We passed a Chinese Temple, fire station, hospital, apartment complex, housing compound, American, British, and Chinese schools.

The bus would pull over at each location so that the kids could see it, but we did not exit the bus. The bus did, however, stop so we could get out for a few minutes, at Starbucks (all right! My kind of field trip!) for a potty break and to see the shopping and restuarants, the post office, where each of the children mailed a letter to their parents, and a strip mall with a bakery, grocery store, flower shop, and beauty salon. We ended the day at a western restaurant called the Flying Fox to share lunch together.

It was a lot of fun, and a great way to get to know more of the kids and parents.
