Today we spent some time at the pool in the morning, and then jumped on the train for the Hong Kong science and history museums. There are six museums here which have free admission on Wednesdays, and from the line outside of the science center when we left, I'm thinking that that is the most popular!
We actually got to the science center before it opened, so we headed across the courtyard to the history museum and had a little lunch. We checked out the museum for about an hour, and watched a video about how the land on which Hong Kong sits, was formed in the last 360 million years.
We made our way back to the science center about 10 minutes after it opened. The initial rush was inside and luckily, a line had not started forming again yet. It was pretty crowded and although it was a nice museum, the hour we stayed seemed much longer due to the crowd. When we left the line had grown to about 1000 people long. It went across a bridge over a road, down a spiral walkway to the ground level, and then continued down the street. I'd rather pay, then wait in that line!
After the science center, Bill took us to a store called "The Opal Mine" where you can buy Australian opals for much less than you can in the US. Here the children decided to empty out Bill's wallet to buy me an opal ring for my birthday. Thanks, guys!
We decided to go to the Symphony of Lights another night, so we hopped back on the train to head back to the hotel. The train was like any other, until you get to the transfer to Disney. Once on that line, the train is painted for Disney, the windows are Mickey head shaped, the hand holds are Mickey heads, the seats are a nice blue upholstery, and they have statues of characters on display in the train. The kids favorite part of our train experience!
Love to all,
B
