Bar Hoppin'.........for Old People

I'm a little late in this post, but last weekend Bill and I went walking down Nanjing Lu Pedestrian Street.  This is a street that you can walk down, or take a "zoo-like" train down, but no cars or bikes, and is full of stores and restaurants. It was a gazillon degrees, as usual, with fully saturated air, and we walked and shopped for about an hour, discussing how we could finally make it out in this heat past the 10 minute mark. Once we had decided that we had reached our limit, we hauled our fairly cranky selves back to the beginning and headed up to the bar on the 66th floor of Le Royal Meridian.

Bill and I like to be the first at any bar we patronize. It's not because we want lots of time to drink, but because we can have the choice seats, best service, and because we are just too darn old to start our night at 9:00pm. At the Royal Meridian, we had an outstanding view of Puxi, Pudong, and Nanjing Lu. We both enjoyed a few martinis and ordered from room service (in the bar), as the bar didn't serve food until 7:00pm. It was 5:30 when we arrived.

While in the bar, we noticed that Nanjing Lu appeared to go right down the The Bund, so after our drinks we decided to check it out. Although we had to walk about 5 blocks past the walking street, we did make it down to The Bund, and decided to have a drink at "The Glamour Bar." We arrived at seven, but for once were not the first there, mostly because this is where people wait for their tables at "M on the Bund" (think "sweetbread" story.)  After having some more snack and another drink, we decided to head home......it was 8:30pm............Bar Hopping for Old People!

Love to all,
