On Saturday, we went to the Shanghai Wildlife Park. In the boys' eyes, better than the zoo because you can feed some of the animals... and you aren't breaking the rules. I'm not sure what that means though, because in China, lots of rules are broken with no consequences. People feed the animals all the time......hands dangling over the fence with food...right over the "No Feeding" sign. You could drive your own car through some parts of the park, and a stray car drove down a pedestrian walking path, right past the "no cars" sign. No big deal, people just move out of the way. No rules. We took a bus tour through the wildlife exhibits, where the animals have a lot more room to roam, and if you pay extra, you can feed the lions and tigers live chickens. No chickens on our tour. We did feed lemurs in the walking portion of the park. You could also feed kangaroos and some birds. We skipped a couple areas, so there may have been more you could feed. Once again, there were amusement park rides. Bill and Brennan rode on some race car go-carts. There was also, as always, a ferris wheel, and some other rides. Some of the rides at this park looked brand new...Yeah.....not so scary! Here they had some large motorized stuffed animals you could ride, too. We will have to let them try some of the other things next time.
A few things to ponder. It never occurred to me how hard it would be not to say "Bless you" in China when someone sneezes. It also never occurred to me that shopping carts would skid across the floor sideways, much lighter than in America, but much, much harder to steer. Pictures on menus and in grocery stores are a must here.....what you see is what you get.....shrimp is a good flavor for crackers, a pile of red beans is dessert, if you're not sure it is chicken...ask someone who speaks English, or avoid it! No, we have not experienced any unfortunate moments yet! Calculators are also a must when shopping at an outdoor market. Everyone knows how to type out the numbers, lots of bargaining is done through a calculator. The thumbs up sign is universal. I think. The Chinese can get more on one bicycle, than we could load in three minivans. Service here is, in most cases, outstanding, and no tipping is expected.

Thanks for the updates...Sounds like everyone is getting aclimated to the new culture...That is great...On a side note....Does the downstairs toilet always run all night long? The guys that are playng poker every night are having a hard time concentrating on thier cards...and I am getting flack for it.....Just curious!...Our love to all...The Baker Clan
