Recently, Brennan's fourth grade class has been working on a unit titled, "Rivers of the World." As a grande finale for this unit, the class took a field trip down to the HuangPu River for a boat ride.
The HuangPu River, separates the Puxi and Pudong sides of Shanghai, and is a major thoroughfare for small and medium ships. Recently, they have even established themselves as a port for small cruise ships.
Although, the kids really didn't see much in terms of fish and such (SHOCKER! I mean really, the water here is .........brown.), they did enjoy the skylines of both sides of the river, and the absolutely beautiful weather!
After a great morning on the river, we headed over to the Cosco Experimental School to meet with a class of local sixth grade students. These students had also been studying the rivers of the world, but had been working on another part of the project. While there, the two schools worked together in teams of two, one SAS student and one Cosco student, on a clay creation based on the theme of the 2010 World Expo, which will be held in Shanghai. It was a wonderful experience for both schools, and it was a great way to end the outing!
