Today, was once again, a beautiful day in Shanghai. We have been blessed with good weather almost everyday of late, and we have been thoroughly enjoying it.
We started out Mother's Day with a western breakfast at a Canadian restaurant named "Julie's Food Experience." This makes me think that maybe "Julie" is a Chinese-Canadian, as the name is very reflective of some of the Chinese-owned stores and restaurants in Shanghai. We ate outside, and although it was already in the mid-80's at 11:00am, there was a slight wind which made it quite pleasant.
After breakfast, we headed over to the Shanghai Botanical Gardens. I had heard about this park about a month ago through the American Women's Club, but did not attend the event they had scheduled there, as it was a rainy day. Ever since then I have been hoping that Mother's day would be a good day to go. Needless to say, I was happy to spend this gorgeous day walking among the colorful flowers.
The children seemed to enjoy the outside time as well, and our little adventure boy, Brennan, hopped on the back of a touring car at one point. Unfortunately, once he was aboard, he didn't know how to get off, as it didn't seem to be stopping anytime soon. In the end, adventure boy waited until the car was near a patch of grass, then jumped off and rolled, like he had just jumped off of a moving train. Luckily, he was unscathed!
The park was huge, and we didn't even get through half of it, before we had all been drained by the high Shanghai humidity. Once we found our way back to the entrance (not an easy task, when all you have is a Chinese map), we called Mr. Tao and headed home. It was a fun Mother's Day activity, and I look forward to a return trip.
