Today is Bill's birthday, and we started out the day with a yummy breakfast at the Intercontinental, before heading out to a local park. Later we will cut into this beautiful cake. It seems a sin to cut it, but it would also be a sin to let it go to waste. Don't they package them pretty here? Yes, it is a Chinese New Year cake, hence the Ox, but it met the requirements. Chocolate on the outside, vanilla on the inside, and fruit to top it off. Light and fluffy. Not too rich.
It has been overcast today, but not very cold, so it was nice to be outside. I went with camera in hand, hoping to capture some of the local activity that I love so much in Shanghai. There we people everywhere, enjoying the simple beauty of the outdoors, and free entertainment.
We passed by several card games, which are seen in every corner and alley of the city, and one of the local's other favorite activities; fishing for household goldfish (for a small fee.)
We also passed ballroom dancing.

The great debates; everybody wants to get in on the action.
Flying kites. Some of them actually disappeared into the clouds. The Chinese ROCK at this sport. Unfortunately, not all of the kites, make it back to the ground.
Eventually, our kids wanted to get in on the action. This one was not free, but VERY entertaining! And, no, Brennan was not green from rolling around in the "hamster ball," but from the reflection of the plastic!
We get this a lot in places where there are more locals than westerners, although, we also get lots of smiles. I'm not sure what he is thinking. He may just be curious.
In the end, we really enjoyed visiting Fuxing Park this morning, and Bill and I will probably return one date night, to enjoy a coffee, while watching an evening of ballroom dancing.
