On Friday night we went to a French restaurant called "Jean Georges" and had a FABULOUS time. The food was OUTSTANDING. We once again, shared a bottle of wine, and have found that Chinese wine is pretty good. We have also been enjoying Australian wine, of late. Although the bar portion of the restaurant was a little too dark for our tastes, the restaurant had great ambiance. Once we were seated, we received a shot of champagne, encased in a gelatinous coating, and served on a spoon, compliments of the chef. Very interesting. We seemed to be the only patrons who received this, and we joked that they thought Bill was the food critic that the restaurants on The Bund have been expecting recently.
We started with crab cakes, and soup. Bill chose warm asparagus and I went with wild mushroom. For the main course, Bill ate chicken and I chose the lamb. Dessert was creme brulee for Bill, and chocolate souffle for me. After that they brought over a sampling of flavored marshmallow treats, chocolates and gelatin. In between dinner and dessert we were offered cheeses and dessert liquors. Throughout the meal, we each had our own server.
We were inside, therefore safe from "swimmers" in our wine, but I'm thinking that I would have won the bet from the last meal, if we had been at Jean Georges. Being that both restaurants were in a similar price range.......Jean Georges WINS hands down!
After dinner, we stopped at the DVD store for the last season of "The Office." One of our new favorites......thanks for the tip, Penny!
Our love to all,
Beth
